Supporting Businesses in a Changing Global Environment

In 2025, SBF grew its membership by about 5% to 34,160 members.  Across its six Action Agendas, it supported 13,000 companies – up nearly 70% from 2024. It also delivered 1,659 trade and investment advisories to help companies navigate shifting global trade conditions and facilitated 232 overseas projects in 48 countries.

Looking ahead, SBF will work closely with businesses, government and industry partners to strengthen Singapore’s competitiveness, foster a pro-enterprise environment and help companies build future-ready capabilities and seize growth opportunities at home and abroad.

SBF outlined several priorities for the year:

  • Shape Pro-Business Environment: Following the launch of the Economic Strategy Review report at the Future Economy Conference, SBF will work with the business community to develop practical Budget 2027 recommendations that balance business needs with broader economic priorities. In 3Q26, SBF, in partnership with Singapore Retail Association and Restaurant Association Singapore, will release findings and recommendations from the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link Study.
  • Build Partnerships for Growth: In May, SBF brought together over 1,500 business leaders, policymakers and industry partners at the Future Economy Conference 2026. It will build on this momentum in the 2nd half of the year through the ASEAN Conference, Future of Trade Forum and LATAM Conference to deepen partnerships and unlock new growth opportunities.
  • Strengthen Support for Businesses: Through the Centre for the Future of Trade and Investment (CFOTI), the newly launched Centre for Enterprise Financing Advisory (CEFA), Council for a Competitive Climate Transition (C3T) and the upcoming Cyber Resilience Centre (CRC), SBF will mobilise industry stakeholders to help businesses seize opportunities in trade, raise financing, advance decarbonisation and strengthen cyber security.
  • Foster Future-Ready Capabilities: SBF will continue to equip businesses with the capabilities, tools and frameworks they need to stay competitive and future-ready. Through initiatives such as the Future Ready Business Index (FRBI), Enterprise Workforce Transformation Package (EWTP), Green 100 and VolunteerInc., SBF helps businesses drive transformation, strengthen workforce development, advance sustainability and create social impact.

In conjunction with the AGM, SBF also convened the 5th Future Ready Business Dialogue with Mr Chan Chun Sing, Singapore’s Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence. Held under the theme, “Whole of System Readiness: What Governments and Businesses Must Do Differently”, the dialogue brought together senior business leaders and policymakers for a candid discussion on how organisations can strengthen resilience, build future-ready capabilities and navigate growing uncertainty.

Newly appointed SBF Chairman Mr Mark Lee said, “This is a period of profound change for businesses. Geopolitical tensions, rapid advances in artificial intelligence and shifting trade patterns are reshaping the global economy, creating both challenges and opportunities for enterprises.

As Chairman of SBF, my priority is to ensure that businesses remain competitive, resilient and future-ready. We will work closely with businesses, government and industry partners to develop practical solutions, foster a pro-enterprise environment and help companies build the capabilities needed to innovate, internationalise and grow with confidence.

Looking ahead to Singapore’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027, there is an opportunity to deepen regional economic integration and strengthen ASEAN’s position as a key engine of global growth. SBF will work with partners across the region to translate these opportunities into tangible outcomes for businesses and advance a more connected, innovative and sustainable ASEAN.”
